On the train that takes him from Dehli to Varanasi, twenty year old Daniel thinks about the summer of five years earlier when, as a sulky teenager, he had been dragged to India by his parents. In Varanasi, during a boat trip on the Ganges, he met Asmita, a little girl who, together with her younger sister, sold small candles to the tourists to be entrusted to the river's waters together with their wishes. Between the two was born an uncertain friendship, strengthened over the years thanks to the dense exchange of emails; a few months ago, however, after her last e-mail in which Asmita announced that she had graduated, Daniele has no longer received any news from her. Until, just before the summer holidays, there arrives a desperate video message from the friend. Daniel is pushed to face a long journey to Varanasi to find out what happened to her and her family. A fire destroyed Asmita's life, taking away her father and his fabric shop business. But behind this story hides a terrible truth and Daniel wants to discover it to redeem the fate of Asmita and perhaps also discover his...
